A Quinceañera in May

For those who may not be familiar, a Quinceañera is a celebration of a girl's 15th birthday. It's a right of passage for the girls, and planning this celebration takes months if not a year or more. In the Latino culture, a Quinceañera is usually celebrated with a religious mass, followed by a reception, and there are several traditions that take place during the mass and the reception that have special meaning. One example is the changing of the shoes in which the Quinceañera's father changes her flats into heels, representing her transition into womanhood. This day is special for the Quinceañera in so many ways, and I was honored to have been trusted to capture Alexa's Quinceañera portraits.
